Hornton Grounds is a beautiful farm set in the Cotswolds in North Oxfordshire very close to the county boundary with Warwickshire. Hornton Grounds is a wonderful golden Hornton stone, Grade ll listed, Queen Ann styled façade house, with a Victorian courtyard style farm yard. The oldest parts of the farm house date back to around 1680 and offer four very individual rooms for a peaceful bed and breakfast experience . The four rooms are warm and comfortable and each has a different aspect over the surrounding countryside and the farm. Whilst the house is very old, all the modern amenities are available, excellent heating and hot water from an eco friendly system and WIFI throughout the house.
The old Cotswold barns have been converted into superior modern stables and there are large modern farm buildings which house the Aberdeen Angus cattle in winter.
The farm aims to grow all the protein and energy for the livestock on the holding using good crop rotations whilst maintaining and encouraging the wildlife on the farm. Hares, foxes, deer and all sorts of mammals can be spotted around the fields. The bird life is wonderful from skylarks to buzzards to lapwings and a myriad of LBJ’S (little brown jobs!)
A young woodland has been planted around the lake and we hope this mixed woodland area will attract even more wildlife. Already we have Canada Geese visiting the lake and Buzzards nesting.
We have beautiful gardens to sit in and enjoy the tranquility, watch the gliders drift over in the sky from the near by Shennington Airfield from the patio and watch the abundant birdlife in the surrounding trees. For the more energetic have a game of croquet on the lawn or a game of tennis on our court.
A pleasant stroll down the avenue can lead off on our nature trail down to the lake and around the pond. On horseback there are some lovely rides to explore pretty villages built of local Hornton stone and find pubs serving local ale. There are bridlepaths for both walkers and cyclists to follow, we have some walking and riding routes ready to follow or you can plan and explore your own route for a relaxed holiday with horse, dog or just Shank’s pony !
